Poem: Sanctuary
at least you're in love with someone
nothing is guaranteed.
pressure pushes in
claustrophobic in our chests
future demanding itself
doubt sneaks in silence
creeping slow along the skin
yanks the anchor, all sudden
panic sweeps us up
flailing, helplessly, untethered
victims to the wind’s whims

but if it carries me to you
blowing me into your arms
we can hold each other close
↓
build a raft out of connection
floating through the storm in peace
finding calm amongst the chaos
・🌸 ・🌸 ・🌸 ・🌸 ・🌸 ・
nothing is guaranteed.
but
just for now, tell me one thing that is true:
tell me that you love me, too
like I do,
like I love you
just in here, just for now,
as we ride life like a ferry,
i don’t know exactly how,
but,
let us build a sanctuary.

allow me, if you will, to create a home of your affections:
・walls out of the words you say
・a shelter of your kindness
carve a cave into your unconditional acceptance:
→ where I can lie until it’s over
and
→ regain my strength
through the rhythm of your heartbeat
appropriate your care
into a promise I can hold
when things get scary — you are there

deconstruct the dollop of divinity you contain
my very own museum of your mind
the way we love, like us, is strange
to each their own, taken as we are
but, hand in unfaltering hand, we try hard
to make you and I go as possibly far;
we stretch out to humanity’s range
